title says it, just need a quick answer, i bought "low" king springs for 150 and the guys said that i can put them on the front only if i wanted and that some people even think it gives the car a better stance, however when i went to get a quote from the mechanic to install it he told me different, he said i would need to buy springs for the back too and also new struts, feeding me how big the job is. what do u guys think? is he just tryna milk my wallet or is he right? (and if he is can someone explain pls) ty.

Better to get new struts iirc - standard struts would wear out much faster on lowered springs.

Afaic no reason why not to do front only (I've done that). Might end up looking PR spec but no particular reason not to.

As for job difficulty actually uninstalling/installing the struts is a 10min job with the right tools. Swapping the springs is a tad harder as you need to compress them to take the strut tops off but still not a huge job afaic.

(My opinion from my limited experience - take it all with a grain of salt aha).

If it's only lows you will be fine on stock suspension. Of course it's going to wear the shocks out faster than stock springs but not enough to be an issue. If you were using superlows then I would suggest new shocks too but otherwise stock is fine. If you have the whole set put all 4 in otherwise you compromise the handling.

I wouldn't pay someone, but thats me. This is definitely something you want to be confident to do as its a big safety factor.

However, it is not a difficult job if you have the right tools or know someone who does. There are PLENTY of youtube how to's including the very famous Mighty Car Mods - earlier days, but still very easy to see how its done.

You could just do the front, if you wanted. But I would go for all 4. Going from normal to Low springs, isn't a huge difference and if you want the overall effect to be people to know you've lowered I would do all 4. New struts are recommended but not essential. Just know that they won't last like they should. Some people will get new struts simply to make sure they have spare stock ones if they want to return to stock or get defected. (You won't get defected for low springs, but you won't pass with blown shocks.)

I don't have any fact saying it will effect your handling, but it does make a lot of sense. Blown shocks don't make for good handling either. But if you replace them on time, you won't see any issues.

How low how low will you be dropping the front? This is quite important.... Forget about looks for a moment.
The front brakes make up for 80% of the braking, so imagine if you had to brake hard how do you think the car will respond.
Cornering hard, I don't know about you but I love cornering hard and fast, we have front wheel drive cars so all the power is going to the front wheels how do you think the car is going to feel when powering around a corner ?

I would probably look at investing in coilovers

@ chowtime,
"low" kingsprings as far as i know is 30mm from standard hight right? i would totally go for coilovers but i cannot find any for my car, i think i came across 1 pair once on ebay and it was almost 2k...i love my car but 2k to lower it is pushing well beyond boundries and i dont think id ever get back the amount of money i put into it :/
but all in all im having fun and everything ive done to my car so far is financially within reach for the "average joe" i try not to spend too much but also try to get the best possible parts and results without going overboard. as for the feel of the car it appears and feels as if the back is already naturally low, the front however is noticeably higher then the back which i why im going to lower only the front, if i lowered the back anymore id probably scape when i got a boot full of shopping and backseat full of kids XD

Coilovers pop up cheaper than 2k. You won't get your money back in dollars, but you get it in pure driving pleasure. However, if it is a family car.. I probably wouldn't. My mrs haaaaaates my coils. Even on full soft haha

well i ended up getting the two front kings in, and i must say it does feel way better, luckily i stuck with the "low" springs, its a perfect hight for this car XD
@Hugh-CE my mrs doesnt even take notice of these kinda things haha,
heres what it looks like now, 150 for the springs 220 for install and wheel alignment.

Looks really good well done... I have just seen too many young kids put super lows on the front and it looks good but handles like *poo*e... Hens Performance (who is a sponsor) does really good deals on coilovers for us but looks like you have the ride height sorted now

Looks good for 30mm lower in front, now its got the old school stance about it, I'm pretty sure that the standard VRX springs for the CG/CH are only 25mm lower than the standard ES suspension anyway, so i didn't think an extra 5mm would be a problem on the standard struts.

Tell me does the ride feel ok and comparable to your standard height springs and is it a bit firmer and have you had any clearance issues with tires scrubbing/ while braking and turning/etc .

late update, @wagonmaster no tyre rubbing at all, wheels are perfect fit with only front low king springs, way better handling around corners and roundabouts, only issue ive had is on me for trying to drive up a steep driveway hahah just scraped/tore the rubber lip i had on there, ended up tearing it off cos it was starting to hang, otherwise its good if anyone cares to know. i do sometimes hear a feint squeeky noise when taking some corners but thats probably cos i used the stock struts ? anyway ive had fun with this car and im probably going to look to sell it so i can get a 4wd...probably an 04- 05 pajero exceed :) families growing and this car is best suited with a teenager or someone without kids ahah :D

I just put Kings Lows in today on the stock struts.
Handles like a dream with the whole lot.

I'd personally recommend putting the lows in the rear too. Sure, having the rear higher put's more weight forward, thus more grip, but if you're looking to reduce body roll, rear springs is the way to go.
A rear sway bar, adjustable is what's been recommended to me, also helps with body roll.

From the small boot I did earlier, handling was almost perfect.
Wheel gap is great at the moment. Hopefully, the springs will sink slightly more within the next week.

How'd you go removing the top bolt from the struts?
I had to take mine to the local garage to loosen and tighten for me.

Hi Maleficus

Great to hear you had success with the king springs 30mm lows as well.

Can you post up a pic of the car with the lows on, would like to check it out?

These photos were taken after a small drive after putting them in. They've sunk slightly lower than 30mm, guessing.
Might have more soon.
