Brake Upgrade Information

Any idea what size the stock one is?
I am replacing my 7/8" with a 15/16" hopefully over the weekend.
The 7/8" came from an FTO I am quite sure and you can have it if you want it.

Also you can take your car to pedders to get the brake distribution checked. It's part of $28 for some suspension report which I recommend as my brake bias is really bad currently which makes any upgrades to the rear brakes pointless.

Guys I was installing the 15/16" BMC along with a different brake booster into my car and a little problem has appeared.

The thread size on the bracket that screws into the pushrod and connects to the brake pedal (pic below) is different and doesn't fit the original Lancer one (or whatever car the BMC came from I am not sure).

Has anyone ever ran into this problem?
Does anyone know what car would have the right one?
The BMC and booster came from an FTO but I am not sure if an FTO uses the same bracket.
Modifying that bracket is always an option but I'd much rather just get the right bit from the right car if possible

what's this part called, and what does it do? looks like some sort of splash shield to keep *poo* out of the back of the rotor?

i guess the stock ones would need to be removed, replaced or hacked up when upgrading, cause presumably the bigger rotors won't fit into them?

is it worth trying to grab the matching set off the donor magna? when i was at the wreckers today liberating some calipers, it looked like i'd need to take the hubs off to get at these, so i left them behind

Is that for the front one?
Normally they are bent back a bit to avoid rubbing on rotors when you do a brake upgrade

I think I actually angle grinded mine, but bedding is probably more clever

It's called a backing plate and it's function is to reduce dirt, water and other junk ingress. Some require driveshaft out to remove, others can be done with only the wheel off. Best op would be to do what StuC's done, tin snips and bend. Only takes a few cuts and you're set.

Rear options include:
  • Any Proton with an engine > 1.6L Calipers
  • Any Proton with an engine > 1.6 rotors (256mm)

Is there a cutoff model year at which Proton rear disc brakes stop being a match up? (Or to put it another way, there's a 2009 Satria at the wreckers, is it worth the drive to go have a look?)

I believe the 2009 would be a Gen2 Satria which would be a no. Thats when they changed from being similar to CC lancers.

^ correct. Would be Satria GTi, M21, Wira and Persona you're after. Possibly Jumbuck, dunno what they had in the rear.

Hey guys,

I need to replace the brake booster on my car.
It has the twin pot 276mm front brakes, 258mm rear disc conversion and has a 1" brake master cylinder.

What is the best booster to use? Standard Lancer/Mirage would be easiest to source but I am not sure if the pedal will be too stiff and I should use an FTO item?

Im gonna go out on a limb here and say the 1" should be fine. Considering it is exactly the same setup ad a stock fto would have. If it doesnt feel sifficient try the next size up. I dont know whatvthat would be though.

Evo is next size up (dont remember which model) Its 1 1/6 or something I believe. Stock lancer is also fine but pedal wont be as firm. I ran that setup for like 2 years and had no issues though.

Proton gti/m21 etc is 15/16
