Has anyone ever tried putting a 4g63 hydralic lifters into a 4g93
i have recently turboed my ce coupe but the custum groud cam has meant that i dont have enough adjustment for the valve clearences
They keep coming loose and now i have stripped out a nut so i was going to try swaping it out for hydralic lifters
Any info would be appreciated cheers

just found this on OZ VR4

Now what I do is grind away all the material that isn't enscribed inside the red lines and smaller base circle. As you can see, by grinding away only material from the flanks and base circle and not removing much or any from the nose of the lobe the red lobe is noticably larger compared to the blue lobe. if no material is removed from the nose of the lobe, the ammount of material removed off the radius of the base circle is what the increase in lift will be.
you can also see that it has allowed the opening point of the red lobe has been brought further down the base circle, the same story with the closing point, meaning the internal angle between the red lines is larger than the angle between the blue lines, this is the increase in duration.

because our engines have hydraulic lifters (HLA's, lash adjusters, lifters whatever you call them in your part of the world) this is what makes a cam regrind a affordable option. I grind the material off the base circle but the lifters just pump up with more oil like a tiny hydraulic ram to take up this extra clearance. some cars have mechanical lifters (RB26, 2JZ, 4AGE) so when you grind the camshafts you need to manually adjust them or make precision shims to attain the correct lash/valve clearance which can be very time consuming and expensive."

hope this helps :)

The yanks and ricans had hydro heads on their 93’s from factory and they ditch them all for mechanical adjustment. Without knowing how your cam is made, I’d say there is something incorrect happening in your head/cam.

If it’s a regrind and they base circle is now reduced you’ll need a shim somewhere to take up the gap.

If you manage to get this done, document it and the wear and tear on the camshaft - hydraulic camshafts have a different profile to solid lifter camshafts to suit the compression of the lifter/oscillation of the rocker/valve spring. You might end up needing an entirely new cam.

Might also be worth your time to call your cam shop and ask what they'd suggest, as ill guarantee it'll be cheaper to get longer cam adjuster bolts than convert to hydraulic (never heard of it being done in a CE, and its pretty uncommon within most other engines).

if you have a CE, you could try putting the locking nut on the bottom of the rocker rather than the top.
