4G15 vs 4G93

Howdy all so... I need some opinions from people that have their know how's about the two engines in question. With the coronavirus in full swing I lost my job as a pick packer a few weeks ago and theres been *poo* all work available and the centrelink pay just ain't cutting it for what I need.

Basically I've sunk all my money into attempting to "fix" my Holden Cruze turbo diesel, is it fixed? We'll find out tomorrow when my new alternator gets here. I am now $6500 in debt for all the replacement *poo* I bought for it and I've honestly just had enough so I'm looking to switch to a CE Lancer.

My question is though what of the two engines are more reliable in your opinions? I have both just sitting in the drive way just waiting for a blue slip but obviously due to lack of work and no end in sight with this *fudge*in virus my funds are seriously dwindling.

EDIT : Just to clarify i'm not chasing power or anything, I just need something cheap and reliable when maintained correctly. The cruze alone costs $140 for an oil change and nothing else... And I know when I used to service my 4G15 I was able to a full minor service for $80

Thanks in advance!

They're about the same as each other in regards to reliability. The 4g15 would probably be slightly better, at least mechanically., as there is no MAF sensor, and its a distributor setup, compared to the MAF and Coilpack setup on the 4g93. Service costs for the two are within a couple dollars of each other, though you might save a couple of dollars per tank of fuel with the 4g15.
Flip a coin and use whatever is cleaner

As what Donki said, much of a muchness really.
But given the 4G93 has that much extra zip in it, that’s my deciding vote.

having now had both motors in the same vehicle for a reasonable amount of time I am averaging 1l/100km more in fuel from the 1.8l over the 1.5l so it really is a flip a coin moment! but the pep of the 1.8 vs the 1.5......... so I guess I agree with both the guys above haha!

Thanks guys, guess i'll go with the 1.8 MR. has more features and more zing etc I guess.. I also got an NA EJ25 liberty in the yard but we won't go there lol.
