4g15 dohc...

Hey guys I have a 2000 model ce lancer coupe with a 4g15, wanting more power out of it, considered doing the 1.8 conversion but seems like its a bit of a screw around in doing so, I just rebuilt the engine, was wondering, will the mitsubishi colt dohc head bolt onto the lancer block etc? Manifolds timing belts all bolt up? Etc thanks.

Nup
Maybe
Are you talking about the ce equivalent colt from the UK our the newer Aussie one?

There arent that many 4g15's around that I know of, only one on this forum and its turbo and puts many a car to shame.
But if your staying N/A, your not going to see much gain out of it, only a few Kw's increase. A stock g93 will give you more power.
As far as a g93 conversion being a screw around, It's probably the least screwy of all, If you wanted to screw around a little more, you could always go a g94 and get a few more killerwasps.

I'm not sure how your looking at sourcing parts for a g15 DOHC, but in the time I've been on this forum, I've only ever seen two come up for sale.
You have to weigh up what your time frame is if your going to stick it out and wait for it, or go the easy option and get parts when ever you feel like it.

No the newer colt DOHC will not fit. It may have the same engine code but the block and head itself is different in size and aren't interchangeable. The DOHC is definitely a hard engine to come by. I only know of 3 members on this forum that have it in their car right now including myself. You'll have to source parts and be prepared to pay around 1.5-2k. They don't come up in Australia very often but you can import the parts from other countries hence the 1.5-2k mark. On top of that you'll have a hard time looking for service parts. LLT racing does 4g15 DOHC conversions which will cost you around the same price. Overall for that amount of money you spend on the car it might actually be better to put in a 4g93 unless you're like me and want to try something different but be prepared to spend if you decide to go this route.

I guess it's about time to come out of the woodworks and admit that I'm also a 4G15 DOHC owner as well for many years. I have been nothing but happy with this engine, but don't expect it to be a powerhouse. If you just bolt on the head with all stock components, i.e. no head porting, extractors, etc, it will roughly have the same (if not a touch less) performance as a 4G93, but different as the 4G93 has more low down torque but the 4G15 DOHC just loves to rev, so it really depends on what your final goal is and if you want to get more power out of it later as there aren't that many aftermarket performance parts for the 4G15 DOHC, i.e. what do you want to achieve?

Ride thread.... NOW

I plan to do one soon, but it's going to be a long one as I've owned the car for close to 14 years and I started modding it from when it was 2 days old and still haven't finished

Or you could go 4g93 DOHC. Its so much fun ;) No matter what path you go, you're gonna make gains. If you're attached enough to your 4g15 and you can trust that its in good enough condition; just bear in mind DOHC for any engine is an expensive, yet awesome, path.

I guess the biggest consideration you need to make is the fact that a 4g15 SOHC to DOHC will cost roughly the same as a 4g15 to 4g93 conversion, with less gains I believe...

Bump on ancient thread but I've had the throught of the dohc conversion on my 4g15 turbo
Any one know what power gains to expect from the boosted dohc conversion (Currently Making 130hp at 8psi with the sohc)

the gains essentially multiply with boost.
you can easily double the hp with a good 10psi setup
Therefore the 4g15 dohc having addtional 12kw at the crank should be able to yield another 24kw. The more boost you fancy the more gains to be had. Its 2018, one cant just run 8psi boost.
125-130kw at the wheels wont be hard to acheive. Thats 175whp if you want to bigger looking numbers. Or 200whp if you want to compare with unicorn dynoyet usa numbers.

your setup is making 96kw at 8psi. 10psi will take it over 100kw.
Ive made about 115kw atw with a sohc 1.5. It was the car that powered me around Oran Park before it got shut down. Very fun.

Also what engine is the dohc head acatually from I cant seem to find it

Probably the better question would be is... What car did it come from...?

And to answer that, I’ve only seen a factory 4G15 DOHC in an imported CE Lancer MX Sedan. There was a ride thread on here, some dude from Radelaide had one. I think he called it the Mini Evo or something.

Again bump on thread but I’m currently pricing up the conversion. My question is will the 4g15 dohc exhaust manifold from the new colts fit to the 4g15 dohc head (for the ce)

Pretty sure they're completely different. I think you can still get extractors from RPW for the DOHC, and I'm pretty sure the 4g18 is the same. Quite a few malaysian companies make parts for them (or at least they used to).

^ I think the 4g18 is close to, but slightly different to the 4g15 dohc in regards to the port spacing - you'd need to check the port sizings and positioning to confirm

You're probably right. I was just going by the fact that when I was looking at g15 DOHC stuff, all the extractors were advertised as g15/g18 compatible.

I was more thinking the turbo exhaust manifold off the new dohc 4g15 as I already have a turbo sohc g15 and want to stay boosted but with dohc goodness

The ones RPW advertise say they fit g15 DOHC and g18 SOHC:

But then the ones from MAMBA say specifically the don't fit the g15 (they might be talking about SOHC though):
