4g69 headers

im doing a 4g69 swap into my mirage as the old g15 bit the dust, i noticed that the 4g69 has 2 cats, if i where to make my own headers and have one high flow cat in the same place as the original one would the car still run or would i have to tune it

Are you sure the exhaust has two cats?
It may be a resonator your looking it.
There's the cat down the front and a resonator usually down towards the rear

im not 100% sure. it might be a resonator, i haven't got a ch to look at in person
 
Some do have a secondary cat and it can be deleted. You will need to buy a replacement cat that will keep the light off though. Liverpool exhaust was helpful for info.
 
some outlanders which came with the 4g69's came with catless headders. make your life easier and use that.

an aftermarket exhaust isnt going to make much difference in the car.

if you do use the catless headder off the outlander, move the second O2 sensor to AFTER the second cat to prevent check engine lights.

i used the factory ch lancer exhaust (front section to second cat will go straight on without mods).
i blew my rear muffler and ended up putting a straight pipe through the rear muffler, was loud and backfired heaps.

i got the RPW headers in the end they will be much nicer than any stock headers and sound good to. i think the outlander headers could have been a good idea if i wast going to use an aftermarket ecu
 
So, was down at the local pick a part, they had outlanders and a grandis, all had the two cat manifold, but did manage to get some measurements:
4g93 and 94 seem to be 265mm centre to centre between #1 & #4 runners, 4g69 is actually narrower at about 243mm.
So due to the seemingly complere absense of convincingly decent tri-y 4g69 headers, i mashed the buy now button on a set for 4g94 and plan to make my own flange.
Will update in the future.
