Grinding on acceleration

hi guys, I’ve got a 1999 ce lancer and am still pretty new to them. Recently I’ve heard a faint grinding only while my foots down on the accelerator and it comes and goes as I drive.. it sounds like it’s coming from the left hand side of the car possibly the from the gearbox..

Has anyone had this sort of issue before and if so can you offer some insight as to potential issues it could be.

Is a 4g15 sohc engine

The only reason I haven’t bothered with wheel bearings is because they make a sound constantly not just under acceleration so because of that it’s sorta ruled out

not really, wheel bearings can make or not make a sound under a huge range of conditions, you get a dumb noise from a wheelish area you check em first cause it’s easy
