Hey guys
Slowly getting parts for the lancer but want to know what else would be good for either suspension and performance mods
Currently just got a new front strut brace which feels good on the car
Ordered bigger brakes will get the pads when they arrive
And got a K&N panel filter which I guess makes it easier to clean
Just want some recommended items from other people

I also have 2 sets of wheels that I’m debating on putting on the car.
First set are 15” 195-55-15 avid wheels which tend to rub on the rear
Avid 15 Inch.jpg
Second are are 17” 205-40-17 which are in need of a fix and new tread
Advanti 17 Inch.jpg
Going to put Bridgestone MY02' on the selected wheels
Anyway cheers for any suggestions guys

Should have mentioned I got a sway bar recently
Looking to get the rear strut brace now

I doubt a rear strut brace would make much a difference. The rear multilink suspension means that the struts only really absorb forces from bumps etc.
The front being Macpherson struts is a bit different as they strut towers are responsible for the wheels to stay aligned

Ah. Might hold off on the rear one then
I got a front brace which feels different now it’s on
Not to sure what else I want to get at the moment

speedo will be slightly out with the 55 tyres. The correct size for the lancer is 195/50r15

Save for coilovers. They are amazing

so i would be better getting the MY02's in the correct size?
dropped the front 2 inches and the rear 1 inch on standard suspension.
Coilovers might be a worthwhile upgrade, all the roads around me are pretty bad and the ride can be very bumpy

Coilovers will just make the ride bumpier but will increase handling capabilities. Tyres will make more of a difference than coils if you're already lowered though. I would suggest waiting until you bolt the bigger brakes on and then decide on the wheels as some 15" wheels don't clear 276mm brakes. If that's the case, easy choice with the 17s. However I would stay with the 17s regardless as you can easily get 205/40/17 tyres and even 215/40/17 tyres, and that adds 40-80mm more of contact patch to the road surface which is invaluable. Tyres will be more expensive for 17s but also more grip so eh.

Performance-wise, get a cold air intake going ASAP and delete the intake resonator. Port the intake manifold. Bigger throttle body (probably off a Magna) and match all of your intake piping to match the TB size. Having the cold air intake come from somewhere around a wheel arch or front of the bumper and make it as straight to the airbox as possible. I'm assuming you have a 1.8L, if so 2.5" exhaust from the dump back with a 100cell cat and hotdog resonator into a straight through muffler (not a cannon). Make sure the inlet/outlet of all components are 2.5".

After this point the only handling/power mods worth doing become $500+ a pop so you'd need to decide whether that's an investment you're willing to make for minimal gains unless you take the turbo route. If you do go turbo, 90% of that 2.5" exhaust will still be perfect, as will the cold air induction.

Basically you want as much airflow as possible within reason (too big and you'll lose power, to small and you'll restrict power - what I've listed is the sweet spot for both NA and converting to a small turbo) and to make sure you have enough fuel and spark to make use of it all. Regular maintenance will suffice for fuel/spark until going turbo.

Thinking of going down the turbo route once of off the P’s, was thinking of doing a port of the intake but not to sure about how to do that or the difficulty. If you have some advice or guide that would be great.

And not to sure how hard the throttle body swap is aswell. If you know guides for that it would be great full
Cheers @rigby

Would it be worth buying a 100cell cat online if so where would I buy one
Or get it all from an exhaust place?

You can buy it online, eBay is fine just make sure the inlet/outlet is the correct size. Exhaust shop will need to weld it into the exhaust. This isn't worthwhile on it's own, just a good piece to add when getting the whole exhaust done (minus he headers, you'll be binning those as soon as you go turbo).

Should be a guide in the CE section about throttle body upgrades, as for porting you'd take the inake mani off and give it to a machining shop to port out for you.

When I plan to get the exhaust done from the dump I’ll get the cat and get them to put that along side the centre resonator and high flow muffler

Would I just need the intake ported or the top head of the engine /intake and exhaust aswell?

Porting the head would help more but is also far more work. Intake itself will be fine

Might go down the the wreckers when I get some time and rip out an intake manifold and Magna throttle body
Are the gains noticeable with a bigger throttle body and ported intake manifold?

Yes there are proven results from doing it as well. You'll feel more low and mid rpm torque and have access to more power throughout.

Had to go the 17”s as the brakes wouldn’t fit on the 15”s
Was wondering what would a good tread size would be good for the 17”s.
Currently run 205-40
