Gearbox/Shifting Issue

Hey Guys

I noticed when I first purchased my '98 Coupe that when I would shift from 1st to 2nd gear it would grind.. The only time it doesnt is when i double clutch.. Only does it once on a cold start. if i shift under 2000 rpm it doesn't grind.. but then will later. added a tube on g70 nulon transmission fluid. hasn't made a difference

Also when shifting between gears it feels very clunky and sometimes needs a little force going into another gear regardless of how fast or slow i want to change the gears..
Theories i have are worn synchros are gone in the gearbox...
Gear Linkages are bad

Would anyone know the issue or any solution to the problem?
Cheers

Clutch is still original. Most of my mates say its the gearbox and say the clutch is fine

Sounds like the syncros are unable to do their job correctly. This could be due to,

Shifting too fast and harshly

Worn syncros

Poor or incorrect lubrication of the gearbox

Or a dragging clutch. Driver or mechanical error.

You can reaearch these online quite easily, but diagnostic is more of a gearbox out thing. Id reccomend buying a second hand box for near nothing, rebuilding and fitting it with a new clutch if you want the issue gone and for no further trans issues.

Been grinding since i bought it. Always use good gearbox oils
would i go to a pick a part wreckers to source another gearbox?

define good gearbox oil... using too 'slippery' oil can cause the synchro's to not work very well. i just use the recommended oil.
if the clutch is dragging that can cause issues but that's normally at high rpm. can test anyway if you like just place in first gear on flat road, hold foot on clutch and give it some rpm, if car tries to move forward then clutch not working correctly. otherwise probably syncros are stuffed.

Alright. Then it will be synchros in the gearbox that are rooted
Sometimes I need to force the shifter into a gear even if I double clutch
Been driving like this for 6 months now.
Might try to source another gearbox

Could also be the springs in the pressure plate. If it feels notchy in all gears, I doubt its the bulk rings.

Night be never actually had a clutch change.
Would you know of a good brand to go with when changing the clutch/pressure plate

If its a daylee? any brand seems to work okay, if your a bit hard on it? then a Exedy would be a good choice.

I should note everytime i push the clutch in or take it out the cars seems to shunt a fair bit. No matter what speed i take it out or the speed im travelling the car shunts

Any ideas??
Cheers

Can be a bad clutch, or a warping flywheel. I dont have a lot more info than that, unfortunately

Currently using
penrite transgear
Semi synthetic 75w-90
And out a bittle of nulon g70 with it
