Changing locks and ignition

Hey all my key doesn't open the boot so I was thinking about changing all the locks and ignition so they all match. Do I need to change the immobiliser chip and all the associated things that go with it or can I just put my the inside of my key into the new key head and have it work.
It I need to change everything what parts will I need

The key must match the immobiliser to work. That means the key needs to match the ignition and doors and boot to work.

Ive heard rumors thats a locksmith should be able to "repin" the locks to suit the key

If youve got the late model remote key you can keep your imobiliser. The chip in your key can be swapped with the chip in the new key. Easier than changing a battery. Just remove the screw and swap over.

Ignition barrel can be changed without changing the chip reader and the door locks/boot locks are purely mechanical.

All these above posts are correct, but don’t you just want to open your boot? It’s easier to match key with boot lock than to match/change all other locks. Is there some reason why the key doesn’t work? Did your key work in the boot lock when you bought the car or did someone swap lock previously and you never had a key? If it’s just the boot lock only take it in to a locksmith, get him to re-pin as stated above by donki or just get to cut another key, easy enough to remove, I gather sedans have cable boot release and yours is ok.

If he can’t cut a key or re-pin lock, get him to supply new cylinder assembly/key or go to wreckers and get one with key.

Only had the car a week and previous owner said key never worked for him. I had no idea it was possible to Repin the lock to suit the key and the cable release works fine.
I would rather not get another lock just for the boot as I want just 1 key to fit all locks

This is the same as the key I have (which is broken as well)

Ok, regular lancer ch key, is your key broken near the small screw end on the key as well..?

Yeah the blade won't stay in the head so I just use it as a remote for now and use the aftermarket key for starting it

You can just get your current boot lock re-pinned.

Get a quote for this and getting your key replaced by the same people and compare with the cost of a set of ignition barrels and keys.

Probably cheaper in the long run to repin and get a new generic style key now than replace and have the other set of keys break apart too.

Already have a generic key without buttons and was thinking of buying a new key shell from ebay to fix the original key

Almost all CH remote keys crack and break at that point, that's a common thing, cheap to fix anyway.

Good idea, just get a new remote key shell to suit the ch on eBay, only catch is you said the generic key wont open your boot, so no use getting it cut to match the generic key as you will be in the same boat as you are now, take the generic key and boot lock assembly into locksmith and find out why this gen key will not open lock / see if he can he repin it to suit or just fix what the hell the problem is, so you can use that key as a template which apparently opens up other doors and starts your car, once it opens and starts all those things then get the new blank ebay key cut to match using that generic key.

Don’t forget what SDate42 said above, take out the little black transponder chip and the remote unlock assembly and put them both back in the new case as well, when you work out whats going on?
