Gear Knob thread pitch....help?

Im not sure if its a common Lancer / Mirage thing, took of my standard shift knob (as i wanted to try and straighten it a bit, but also to check thread pitch), and noticed that there's 2 different thread sizes on the shaft. Looks like about an M10 size for the first inch or so, then steps up to an M12 size (maybe?)

Looking to replace with a nicer shift knob (i had a good one in my Swift that didnt get hot in summer), and want to ensure i get the right thread pitch for it
I did try the Swift way, which was check the wheel nut vs the shifter (as the wheel studs were the same as the shifter), and it didnt go on, so assuming its not 1.5 pitch haha

Only other Mitsi ive taken a shift knob off was the Evo, and its a single pitch thread on the SST shifter (and had a straight replacement ARC to go onto that)

There are 2 types of gear levers for some reason.
One is the double threaded one that you have but there is a single threaded one too (I believe this one is more common).
I have the single threaded one and used a Evo 6 gear knob which is M10X1.25

Ah righto, so clearly it wont make a huge difference aside from potential thread depth i guess?

I'll have a geeze around and see what i can get then

Cheers for that. Thought i may have been going loopy haha

Well, as a follow up. Got a gearknob thats a perfect fit
Tomei Duracon 90mm knob. Fits snug up to the shifter boot as well

Personally I bought an Evo TME gearknob from Amayama and it fit perfectly.
Nice and comfortable too.

I think Mazdas share the same threat size (for Lancers with the single thread gear stick) and some of them may have decent OEM shift knobs (new Mazda 3 or 6 for example)

I grabbed the 10x1.25 one (it specified Mazda, but also had Mitsubishi and Nissan on the specs), and managed to no interfere with the secondary M12 thread either

For $50 delivered for genuine Tomei i couldnt complain

How heavy is it?

To be honest when I ordered the TME gear knob I was expecting it to be the same as the normal Lancer but leather wrapped + red stitched.
Turns out it's a fair bit smaller and much lighter.
I initially was hoping for a Honda Type R gear knob but the OEM ones don't fit and the aftermarket ones are aluminum so really lightweight and hence won't feel very good when shifting

Compared to the stock (seemingly weighted) one, its lighter but a bit easier to hold. I like the Duracon because if its sat in the sun all day its not gonna give my palm a third degree burn haha
