AirCon Help

Morning Team,

got a fun one here so im after suggestions.... This time last year, my Aircon died :(, took it to mistsi, and they regassed it telling me the system was over pressure. The aircon maybe worked for a few months/dont really know when it stopped again as we left summer in to autumn and i didnt really need it. So begining of this year found aircon was pooped again (the blowers work, however theres no difference between aircon on or aircon off). so it went back to mitsi for its anuual service, and they regassed it (this time supposedly it was low), but even driving it home from the dealer, theres stil no difference between ac on and ac off.

What else can i look at as the gas dosent seem to be the issue? is there anything i cna check to see if the its bunged alltogether ?

Electrical issue or the clutch on the compressor could be a fault but the best way to check is to have a good AC doctor look at it. There are many reasons for AC to not be cool.

I'm sure if @Joshy_morris jumps on, he can tell you exacts:

I know you can short out two pins in the relay to turn the fan on. I think you can also short two other pins to make the compressor kick in. If the blowers work, id guess its the aircon compressor not turning on, hence no cooled air coming through

Similar to above, you could run the car with the bonnet open and listen for a noise change when you press the A/C on button. Should hear a clunk as the clutch engages and engine speed rises to compensate for the load. You should also be able to see the shaft on the compressor now spin. A/C Diag, as any Diag is difficult over the internet - interesting a dealer couldn't be bothered to do a 2 second scan of faults or even test the function properly.. Taking it to a workshop is your best bet for easy results..

Ill have a look this weekend if i get a chance or ill go find a decent garage, i think there might be an aiurcon specialist near my work apparently. cheers guys.

Its wise to run your air conditioner for a few minutes say once a week, in cooler months, otherwise seals can dry out and Gas escapes.
Forget Mitsubishi go see an air conditioner shop.

Just trying to get my head around the timeline of your problem, you said you had it gassed before summer ended and it worked for a “few months” then you didn’t use it from then till autumn, so say add another 2 mths so (according to mitsubishi) the gas leaked out over a period of 4 mths (?) in which you only used the a/c for 2 of those mths (summer) then you got it regassed again at Mitsubishi, but after leaving Mitsubishi the 2nd time the a/c still didn’t work.

Did they at all check for leaks after evac? Pressurize the system and used any or the following methods?

• UV Dyes and UV Leak Detection Lights (Black Light)

• Electronic leak detectors (very reliable)

• Nitrogen Leak Test (most reliable) not that commonly used.

The gas (if they did their job properly) must be going somewhere from a supposedly sealed system? The average a/c system will lose aprox 10%+- per year) unless your seals/shaft seals/c onnections/hoses are shot or some other problem exists with your fittings then your gas loss over that 4 mth period should have been aprox +-4%, nowhere near enough to stop your a/c working or needing regassing in that timeframe.
