BRAKE LIGHT FUSE

Hey guys I need some urgent help. My car keeps blowing brake light fuses just by me pressing the brake pedal when I put a new fuse in. (without key in ignition) (which to my knowledge means there is a short somewhere along the brake light wires?)
Im unable to find any problems.. but over the past couple of weeks I've also..

1. Removed my spoiler which consisted of cutting the brake light wire for my spoiler and taping it up to ensure wire doesnt short on wire which I have double checked.

2. Installed aftermarket head unit which I have read can be the issue..

3. Installed sub woofer and amp, but I removed the power wire (that goes from battery to amp) and tested the fuse again and it still blows with that disconnected so it must not be the problem..

I have suspicion that it could be the brake light switch but I'm not sure.. could somebody please shed some light on my situation? Cheers!

Do you know exactly when it started happening? And is it possible to undo the things you've done over the past weeks to see if any are at fault? Ie stock hu back in, plug brake light back in ect and see if any of that changes it?

Chances are if you've been playing with your car, and it starts doing things it shouldn't - very likely related to what you've done

Hmmm interesting, I agree with what SDate42 said, it's more than likely something that is related to recent work undertaken.

  1. Start isolating each of your circuits starting with obvious rear spoiler brakelight wires, disconnect or cut both power/earth wires and try brakelight test again, if ok than check for leakage/short on holder after removing bulb, double check holder and check you have connected rear spoiler wires to correct + and - factory wires, do not reconnect until you check with test light/meter while someone holds down brake pedal, leave disconnected till after you test other mods you did.
  2. I guess you are using correct fuse rating?
  3. Disconnect both power feed wires from amp including earth, try again above check if bulb blows, if not leave disconnected and move to head unit.
  4. Disconnect power to head unit both + and - , check again , did you use the factory radio/cd power feed wire from old head unit or did you take power from someother new point on the fuse box?
  5. I understand you wired amp to battery, is amp in boot or under seat or somewhere else? and did you accidentally damage rear brake wiring circuit while running power cables to rear/front seat amp?
  6. I doubt it would be the brake-light switch as most only complete a single circuit, check it if you wish.
After this it gets messy disconnecting / isolating complete front/rear harness connection points / circuits, hopefully it will be something simple that has caused it !!

Thanks for the help!
*SOLVED* I took my spoiler off and didn't plug the holes up quick enough which lead to water getting through to my tailights and getting in the plug. I just had to dry it out so it stopped shorting out :)
