4G15 Headgasket/stud oil leak fix.

I have a 1998 CE lancer with a 4G15 5sp which has been losing a bit of oil, there is less when i do an oil change than I put in there on the previous change after 8000kms. From a visual inspection it seems this leak is coming from the head gasket as I can see it wet around the block. There is no oil in my coolant, coolant in my oil or smoke out the exhaust.

From what I've read 4G15's seem to be known for weak head studs and this leak from the headgasket is fairly common. I'm wondering if instead of replacing the headgasket I can just buy a set of new studs and tighten them to factory spec. If the gasket is fine it should seal back up again without all the labour involved in changing the gasket.

Has anyone else done or tried this and/or would you recommend I just swap out the studs?

Regards,

I'm a bit hesitant to retention the current head bolts because as I understand they are torque to yield bolts. Having already been stretched I wouldn't like to stretch them too much and cause problems down the road.
Or worse yet snap a head stud and get it stuck in the bottom end.

A bit more relevant information, coolant does also drip from the intake side of the motor, maybe one or two droplets in a day after use (only really drive the car on weekends). If I get under the car I can see the green droplet formed next to the oil filter.

So I changed the headgasket and put in new head bolts using the method stated in the FSM: 49nm, loosen, 20nm, 90deg, 90deg.

It isn't leaking anywhere near as much as it was before, however I can see it's a bit wet/dripping near the headgasket so I'm wondering if I should tighten the head bolts another 45 degrees, or maybe loosen 45 then tighten 90.

Any suggestions?

Does anyone have any ideas? I'd like to fix this issue asap.

To be clear aswell I checked the head it's not warped or cracked and has never overheated in my year of ownership.
