Wheel and Tyre Question/Information Thread

Turns out it was a GSR so had a 4x100 stud pattern anyway, looks pretty sexual, wouldn't mind if it was lower though, were SSL's ever made for Lancers? Or is there any other way of lowering my car without buying coilovers?

Cut a coil out of the springs is a way but not a good idea. The car will drive better at the current height, any lower and all sorts of wheel alignment issues occur but each to his own.

You won't wanna go much lower than that. An easier and better option would be to get a VRX/Evo 4 kit (skirts, rear lip/pods and front lip) which will make the car look lower without causing terrible alignment issues

I'm up for new daily tyres.
RE003's are 4 for 3($239) right now and in the right size. 215/40R17
But wouldn't mind considering RS3's. But the are bigger being 215/45R17, but are cheaper at $169

Secondly.
I'm wanting to buy another set of wheels and tyres so I can do track days next year.
Not sure if I should stick with 17inch wheels or maybe consider getting 16's ?
Possible tyre options?
Bare in mind, the last time I had a car on track was Christmas holidays 1999/2000.
I'm a bit out of touch in that regard.

Guess it depends what your budget. From what I've read, the federal RSR's are a decent tyre and not too expensive. Could also save you a little unsprung weight if you go down to a light weight 16 inch wheel too.

Would you also consider a 15 inch wheel. R spec 15s are cheaper and more plentiful. A 15 inch wheel 8 inch wide with a 225 45 tyre is awesome on track. The other option is to run a slick from the front of a radical race car ( that's what I do).

Dont bother trying to go 45/17 profile, atleast on the fronts. You can get away with it on the rear with careful alignment/ride height.

For the power./racing you want to do. You can get 215/40/17s in 595RSR semi slicks, which are pretty decent for the $$.

Otherwise going down a rim size is or 2 is great for tires. Id be running 15s or 16s if it wasnt for the Brembos.

If I could get 15's in a x7/8 in 5x114.3 I'd go for it. Not many options though. Usually expensive too.

Standard CJ stockie/steelie wheel, 16x7 in 5x114.3. Tad on the heavier side for a wheel, but wouldnt be much to have them rebarrelled either to 8"

Not bad for new wheels Donki.
Not sure about budget, would prefer to keep it low.
CJ stock steel wheel (not the alloys) is what i have as my spare tyre. Fits over 276mm/260mm, and is the right offset/diameter/width to not fk too much up to roll around on. The alloys might also be something to look at, but i dont know their sizes.

I've looked at those, they are 16X6.5 if I remember correctly.

I've looked at factory alloys too from CJ's and Outlanders too, they're 16x6.5 +38

Outlanders have two types.

205/50/16 for 16's.

Getting 16" 5x114.3 wheels in the right size is the issue.

15's will fit over FTO brakes...but I don't think they fit over vr4 brakes :(

CJSs wheel size varies according to ie: ES and LS 16"6.5 and XLS and GSR 18"7. Not sure if relevant but 2ltr 16", 2.4ltr 18". 18" wider lower profile then 16" tyres overall diameter approx: the same.

The Outlander wheels I linked are I think a perfect size.
I'd nearly consider using those daily if I could get a nice semi slick.
Not to mention you can buy them new for less than $500 with lug nuts. Freight was the killer though.

I don't mind the look of the solid 5 spokes. What size tyre would you be looking at running on them? 6.5 seems a little narrow.

*edit*
Just saw the split spoke was $220 for a single rim. Stuff that. Those Buddyclubs I linked earlier would be better value.

Prostreet performance wheels will build wheels to the offset you want check on the eBay's. Steel wheels don't mean heavy.

The link for the single rim was just an example.
I've seen full sets of them on eBay from dealers for $550 a set of 4 with centre caps and nuts.

I think for a 6.5 you might get away with a 205.
