Intermittent wiper problems

Hi all,

Picked up a a CE Mirage a couple of months back as my daily and my first problem in otherwise trouble free motoring has appeared. Drove to work in the rain earlier this week and noticed that the intermittent setting for my wipers wasn't working. Constant slow and fast both work, but the intermittent setting and pulling back for washers results in nothing.

Any simple things to check first?

It can be a few things. So im assuming no water comes out aswell. Check if there is a pump sound (check water first aswell lol). If there is no pump sound then im assuming the wiper stalk has had it.

However i am not sure if there more then 1 fuse for the wipers which can also be an issue. It could be a multi relay issue aswell which is similar to some cars having 1 relay unit for both indicators which is actually a multi relay where there are 2 individual relays in the 1 unit and if 1 of the relays within the unit is dead it only allows for the right indicator to turn on but not the left and also effects the hazards aswell (happened in my misses car and getting another relay fixed it).

So if there is a multi relay unit which controls each wiper funtion then 1 of the relays could be dead which can cause issues. I may be totally wrong but its plausible and easy to check.

Id have the car off and listen if there are any relay clicks in both the interior fuse box location as well as the engine bay fuse box (im unsure where the wiper fuses and relays reside) if there is no relay clicks at all it may be the stalk which isnt engaging those functions which is the most tedious part so thats why its listed last and always good to check the other things first.

I had what sounds like the same problem and it's the wiper/washer stalk, at the steering wheel end there's a box with some metal strips and contacts and *poo*. If you hold the stalk in a certain way it might work. Mine had some dry solders and the circuit board was cracked in the box bit. I could hear a clicking as it shorted. I just got the whole stalk assembly from upullit.
