Need a Spare Key for a CE Lancer

Hi guys,

I've only got one key to my Lancer CE. I should probably do something about it before it's too late.

Any advice?

Thanks

PS: I tried searching but...
The search could not be completed because the search keywords were too short, too long, or too common.

EDIT: I should clarify that I have 2 remotes but just 1 key. Thanks.

Hey mate,

The keys are coded to the immobiliser so you will need to get Mitsi to copy one for you which i 'think' is around $100 or something silly like that.
You can get a regular cut at bunnings or any lock smith place but they will only be able to open the door but not start the car.
I got a spare one of my key cut just in case I lock my keys in the car again I have a spare to unlock it.

I have heard rumors of people coding their own keys but no one has been able to prove it to me.

Skywalka. You have 2 options
Option 1. Go to Mitsubishi and they will more then likely send you to their spare parts department to pick up a key who will then send you to a locksmith to have the key cut who will then send you back to Mitsubishi to have the key cut. Although some locksmiths will be able to cut and code they key. Expect to pay around $50 to have the key cut to code, which is a good idea because this will get rid of any wear and start you with a new key as it left the factory. You can get the mechanical key code from Mitsubishi if you supply proof of ownership. You'll probably find your locks work better as well!
Or your locksmith will duplicate your old worn key on to your new key and will charge around $10. Keep in mind you'll end up with the same wear or worse on your new key. Expect to pay for the cost of the key, cutting of the key and coding the key to your vehicle.

Option 2. You can go to a locksmith with your car and your key and they can cut and code a generic key from your old key. This will open and start your car. Expect to pay aprox $150. Ring around first and make sure the locksmith can copy transponder keys and check their prices.

Both of these options are cheaper then loosing your key and having to have keys made, not to mention the amount off hassle loosing your key.

Yeah I had the same predicament when I got my car, only one key. I went with option 2 and was quoted by most locksmiths $150+ but I found a guy at carribean markets here in victoria that does transponder keys for $85
