So ive got a bad coolant leak in my 02 CE 2 door lancer.
its coming from the bottom of the part that holds the thermostat where the metal pipe connects. (see picture)
Problem is, i have no idea what this part is called, and how to remove it, the pipe connects over to the other side of the engine and im trying to avoid removing the timing belt if possible.

So what is the name of this part so i can find a replacement and how do i remove it?

Thanks in advance.

if this is a 1.5? thinking it is cause it looks like mine, it's a thermostat housing. There is 3 bolts holding it on, the pipe that goes into the back of it is sealed with an o-ring. if you remove the 3 bolts and take the housing out you will see the o-ring i'm talking about. renew this o-ring if that's where it's leaking from. and ensure you don't damage it putting the housing back on. that thermostat looks rooted too, would probably be worth replacing it and the housing. wreckers maybe for the housing, then you'd want a new thermostat and new o-ring

hi Jaykaster,
yes its a 1.5L, sorry i think i explained it wrong, the part thats leaking is under the thermostat housing in the picture below. its a metal water pipe that connects from the thermostat housing to the other side of the engine block near the timing belt.

Yeah thats what i mean, it goes to the water pump. Take those 3 bolts off to get the thermostat housing off and you can get to the seal, easier way to get to that pipe

thanks for your help bud, ,managed to get it off with bit of a wiggle. was rusted on so bad, just need to get that pipe off so i can replace it.
pictures attached.
does anyone know where i can get this pipe from, wreckers i guess..

Yeah I'd say wreckers man. Might be a pain to strip it down at a wreckers though. I can see if i can find a part number/price from mitso for you tomorrow if you like? Will be expensive im sure but could help with sourcing one elsewhere?

Ahh dude if you can get a part number that would be awesome. Otherwise yeah I thought I would jut go rip everything out of a wrecker that I need. Rust particles have spread right through the system so need to replace as many hoses as possible!
