maybe you should post up as well how to radiator flush? I know how to do it, but it might be a good thing to throw up on here. also things like brake air bleeding and clutch slave air bleeding? some of the more "technical" DIY tasks that are easy to do at home.

and my sump plug is also a 17mm, I'd assume they all are.

also, dont over tighten the oil filter, a firm seal is all that is needed.

yeah I had that drama trying to get it off just after I bought the car, someone had either tightened it up WAY to tight, or It'd been on there that long it'd welded with the dirt and just stuck solid, took a fair bit of effort to get the damn thing off.

17mm sump plug head with a 14mm washer seems to be fairly universal on cars and even motorbikes.

With over-tightening the oil filter the problem is it puts too much pressure on the seal which can be pushed out to the side and then leak oil. Yes I’ve seen it happen, although I also suspect the other issue was the filter was a cheap one with a not so good seal in the first place...

Radiator and clutch DIYs would be a good idea if someone wants to right them up however, I would be strongly against a DIY for brake bleeding. People really need someone competent to help them out with this or take the car to a mechanic due to the safety risks if you bugger it up.

I'm not sure how important this is, but every time I change my filter I fill it with oil first, let it soak in then top it up again. The motor will suck straight from then filter when you start up the car so you don't want it to be sucking dry. Starting your engine does more ware and tear then anything else, doing this on a service is a simple technique to keep things happy

with the oil filter change, I've found as the lancer's are orientated in a great angle, half filling the filter before putting it back into place, and then only putting in 3L of oil in the sump works for me. I turn it over and let it run for a minute to get the oil in the system, turn it off, wait 5 mins, check oil level, and top accordingly.

on some oil systems (not sure bout the lancer), the oil return is where the filter sits, right before it re enters the sump (scavange filter system). this sort of system means that the oil is picked up directly from the sump with no restriction on the feed line, though if there is something in the sump there is a risk of contamination into the system as a result. (again not sure what system the lancer has).

I can do a DIY on clutch bleeding, and the change over of the slave cylinder (as I'm about to do this to my car anyway).

as for radiator flush, I'll check what my fluid looks like, and if it needs a change, I'll do the DIY as well. I can write it up anyway, just wont have pictures to go with it.

Alright, so today the car was on a slight slope and I checked the oil. Im guessing because of the slope it appeared quite low, but without realising the effect the slope had I topped it up onto it was on the middle of the dip stick, when the car was back on level ground I had another look at the dipstick where the oil mark was about half way up the 'MAX' on the stick. Is this too much oil and cause problems and Ill have to drain some out or will this be ok??

haha, Im still learning this stuff...... :/

Actually, dont worry, Dad had a look and it is just below the 'X' in the Max, just a bit above where the Mechanic had topped it up last so it shouldn't cause any problems :D

How do you bleed the clutch??? My clutch feels a bit rough (and stiff af, might be HD?) feel like a bleed might do something...

Can anyone tell me how many litres of fluids I should buy
Do I buy premixed or concentrate coolant?

2.2L gbox oil
3.3L g15 oil
3.8L g93 oil
Keep filling up coolant till it stops pissing so much out.

Premix or concentrate doesnt matter. I like to use 100% concentrate and top up with water, because it lasts longer/more fills

A little tip if changing gearbox/diff oil. Always undo the fill plug before the drain. If the fill plug siezed/ cross threaded or rounded it's better to find out before draining!

If anyone has some original images, send them to me and I will store them on the AusLancer hosting so that they are preserved....

Great little write up

Out of habit from working in workshops both auto and heavy machinery. I also like to pop the dip stick. (Breather effect) I also place the cap on the bonnet latch (reminder in case mum/bro/mate/self go to take car).

I was hoping to find plug gaps in here also. As I thought along with fill volumes having plug gaps, oil/fluid types would be handy.

Once again great little write up. Thank you

Plug gaps should be in the manual if you have it, otherwise the catalogues of the spark plug manufacturers usually specify it. That said, I would just buy long life iridiums/platinums that are pre-set and forget about it for the next 100k.
