Sick and tired of what I I feel are down comments from Many reviewers on CJS. examples All that grey plastic, well looking through new car adds on the internet, just about every new car has all that grey plastic some perhaps with a bit more chrome.Oh, then the words cheap plastic. While some finishes can be more attractive and we now have a nice soft panel in the front doors of the my15 I cant see what the gripe is all about. Only alternative to cheep plastic is leather, alternative cheep plastic, even Mercedes have used it! Then the gripe its a 7 year old car. Nothing mentioned about Holden Commodore being even older or Falcon catching up and there are others.Sure they have carried out more substantial face lifts only because they had to but the chassis remains the same and their base models use motors way older than ours. The CJ hasn't needed big alterations because its distinctive design akin to a mini Mustang still Looks great. Not like the others that all look like they came out of the same sausage machine. Remember that old TV add"When your on a good thing stick to it". In our bracket of small - medium cars the hype is about engine performance and economy, with turbos and direct injection being the big deals. Direct injection would be nice in our 2.0 ltr and should be looked at by Mitsubishi possibly lift power up to about 125 kw for the 2.0 ltr and bring the engine up to date. As for turbos. How can anyone expect a 1.6 ltr turbo engine pushing the same weight to last as long or be as reliable as a naturally aspirated 2.0ltr engine. Short term gain long term misery. Oh then the comment mid rush of power from the 1.6ltr turbos? someone should tell them that its only noticeable because of the sluggish low speed take off and its playing catch up.

Volkswagen has managed to create a reliable 1.2L engine pushing out pretty incredible power all thanks to a turbo. over-engineering and tight tolerances create a well balanced car. Not to compare the CJ to any other manufacturer, i think it's a pretty average car. You could talk for days about the interior, i'm not fussed about that it's certainly not the worst on the market for that price range. My problem is definitely the drive itself, my CH pulls harder than a CJ (both stock engines) and feels nicer than the CJ around corners. It's certainly a platform that could be improved and i do like the shape. But i'd definitely rather invest $20-30k into a nice EVO 8 than a mid-market family sedan. Completely my opinion and I don't knock those that enjoy the CJ, they are a nice overall car, but yeah not my cup of tea.

Let it be said that if you buy a car based on a car review by someone who got paid to do it.. hmmmm.
Also you can get a CJ with a turbo 2.0L. Two in fact. The RalliArt and the Evo X.
Also I'd like to know what not-cheap plastic is and where it can be found in a brand new mid range family sedan for $20k.
As for looking like a mini Mustang.... nope.
And the shape is incredibly old but so was the CE shape. CJs have a few variants with facelifts like the VRX so that is covered.
Aside from that, they are incredibly boring to drive. Reliable yeah but also hella boring. The power is fine but the weight lets it down so it's definitely not quick unless you work the 2.4L version.
Need a new model asap. They are like rats on the road.

Rigby Hi and thanks for your reply.BUT! (1) Buying a car on review. If I did, I wouldn't have bought one. (2)You can get a 2.0ltr turbo ! I know but no thanks. (But be nice to get all those extra nice frilly, fancy and functional bits and pieces) (3) like to know what not cheap plastic is! Exactly my point. Read a review on a Mercedes, reviewer related to use of cheap plastic,so maybe he could give you your reply? . (4) looking like a mini Mustang! (Three boxes, short boot) Throwaway line, if only. (5) CJS have a few variants! Yes but nothing big. (6) The shape is incredibly old! The shape is one of the reasons I bought it. Removed from most of the others that look like they came out of the same sausage machine. (to each his own). (7)Boring to drive, like rats on the road! Haven,t been on a long trip in this one yet but drove to Perth from Melbourne and back years ago in a Ford Telstar (Mazda 626 2.0tr)and enjoyed the drive. That car no air con: Was smaller, slower and unrefined, by comparison even though it was the Ghia. (8) Incredibly boring to drive, hella boring? Like rats on the road! Can I presume that those comments relate only to CJS and that earlier models are superior, or do those comments relate to all lancers. If the second option is correct. Why and what is your interest in Lancers? Once again thanks Rigby for your in depth reply, we need people like you, who take the time and effort to respond to our messages and while like myself we might not always agree with you, it most often is helpful.

The old shape comes from both being over 8 years old and the lack of distinction between an ES and a VRX or even a RalliArt. Need a new model.
And by rats on the road I mean there's literally at least 5 CJs on every drive I do. More than commodores sometimes. Every man and their dog has one. Both CEs and CJs suffer from it.

Must be more popular up their than down here. Nice car and I like it. Intend to keep it for the rest of my life, which at my age? Not related perhaps should have been a new thread but Over the years and looking back at 0-100kmh times this is one of the quickest cars I have had and that includes ie: Holden's HD, HT both small engines, Fairmont XC 6, 1983 Telstar Ghia etc: and only points of a second slower than my Australian built Skyline. So the question arises why do we need all this extra performance on our crowded roads?

Probably something to do with offering bang for buck in direct competition with other manufacturers who make cars for similar markets.
